Contrary to popular misconception - you can make website changes without it being (too) painful.
Due to old school flash being flagged by security software and the favored choice to eliminate it, many corporate websites over the April 13-14th weekend overhauled their websites. Customers patiently waited for the changes to take effect while reading splash pages that stated, "please be patient while we update."
Now it's Monday, the tech departments have worked overtime since Friday and they hope every kink has been ironed out and all glitches are gone. For the most part, these website reconstructions have gone well. But for some like Home Loan Bank, the website changes could have been years better.
HLB uses the domain www.homeloanbank.com for their main website.
But their domain for payments is different (this is something I do not recommend for any business). Initially their payment site was www.billingandpayments.com
Rather than updating or overhauling their current payment site, HLB chose to use a new domain, www.paybill.com
Which would have been great, had they informed their staff. And also set their old domain to forward to the new domain. Which is an easy process!
When calling in to HLB, their staff tell you that you need to open a new browser (not necessary), go to their main page and click on the link at the bottom. Instead, they should have said, "Our domain has changed, go to our main site to click on the link."
It is always incredible to me when a company has zero knowledge of how Information Technology works. When they seem to not even understand the basic concept of what a domain is. Or how their new website is accessible.
Almost every website currently online right now needs to be updated due to the necessary new security changes in coding. But it doesn't have to be klunky, it doesn't have to be painful and it does not need to frustrate your clients.
If you need your website updated, let me know. I've been in business for 23 years. I make fast, accurate changes. If you're not sure whether your site is up to date, ask and I'll give you a free consultation.
