Phishing can be extremely hard to detect in 2020. More sophisticated attempts, using 50% legitimate links or brand logos / layout in their emails. 

 

You have to examine before you click. Not just what you're about to click, but every centimeter of the email...

Scammers are targeting people like you and will stop at nothing to trick you into giving them your personal information. What can you do? 

Bank of America suggests: 


  • Don᾿t respond to unsolicited requests for account or personal information such as access codes, PINs or FSA IDs.
  • Validate a person᾿s organization by calling them back through an official phone number you have saved either through contacts, records or statements.
  • Never click on unsolicited links until you verify the request is legitimate.

The Federal Trade Commission offers detailed examples: 


Phishing emails and text messages often tell a story to trick you into clicking on a link or opening an attachment.


  • They may say they’ve noticed some suspicious activity or log-in attempts
  • claim there’s a problem with your account or your payment information
  • say you must confirm some personal information
  • include a fake invoice
  • want you to click on a link to make a payment
  • say you’re eligible to register for a government refund
  • offer a coupon for free stuff
