Security Tips: Instacart Phishing Scam

With almost everyone working from home during the Pandemic - deliveries skyrocketed. And that meant an increase of phishing for popular delivery sites.

It really doesn't take a genius for a scammer to assume you might be ordering groceries online during this pandemic. And if you click their links - you might find yourself in a worse position than sheltering in place while homeschooling kids with dried out hands from mega doses of soap and sanitizer...

Phishing Emails

Phishing emails can be any email that was created to resemble a legitimate email but the links inside will send you to malicious websites. Some websites will download malicious software, tracking, trojans, malware, spyware, etc to your computer or phone. Or will require you to verify who you are and then steal any information you give them.

Here is an example:

Instacart Phishing Email - keep in mind, Scammers will change the wording, but as of this post, this was the current attempt

How do you know this email is a phishing attempt or a real email? What if someone was trying to hack your Instacart account?

Don't ignore the email.

But do NOT click the links in the email.

You should bookmark all of your online accounts and only ever access them through your bookmarks. Don't Google and assume the first legitimate looking result is the right website. Because website results can be spoofed.

And don't try from your memory. You might mistype or be redirected if your computer is already compromised.

ALWAYS visit from bookmarks.

TNW Creations is a Web Development & Media Publishing Agency in Austin, Texas. Web Development, cyber security, web design, clean energy web host, Advanced SEO, Digital Marketing and more since 1995.

I've been programming, designing, writing and publishing professionally online since 1995. I've worn many hats throughout my life, but the common core of my career has always been media. Besides the portfolio you see on TNW Creations, my internet presence has been substantial for over 2 decades. In 1995, while still in college, I founded TNW Creations and became part of the grassroots development for teaching the Lakhota language online. By 2004, my bilingual work was listed on many sites, including National Geographic , Encarta and Touchstone Pictures Hidalgo. When I'm not developing and writing, you'll find me managing MagicStoryLand.Com, creating kid-friendly game & video content, investigating and initating hostile website takedowns, posting salty articles about cyber threats, moderating UnifyLife.Org and enjoying my  community, church & family.
