In my web developer circles, my fellow designers often come to me for SEO help. 25 years of winning this search game online with some big brands having listed my website like National Geographic, Microsoft Encarta and Touchstone Pictures! So it wasn't that much of a surprise when Wix designers in a 4,000+ community group asked me how to use Google Lighthouse just last month (August 2020) and I launched a little tutorial for them. Now I'm sharing the quick rundown with you...

So what is Google Lighthouse?
It's the easiest way to find out if Google likes your online presence.
Because if Google LIKES your site... it will show in search results. Makes sense, right? If you didn't like someone, you'd probably hide them too... wait, are you hiding people on Facebook now? Oh you left that giant named Meta already? Yeah, us too. Smart move!
So where can you find Google Lighthouse and how do you use it?
Is it software? A mobile app? Do you need to pay for it? Be certified to use it? Does it only work with certain types of websites?
Nope, nope, nope, nope to all of that.

Lighthouse is an open-source, automated tool for improving the quality of web pages. You can run it against any web page, public or requiring authentication. It has audits for performance, accessibility, progressive web apps, SEO and more.
You can run Lighthouse in Chrome DevTools, from the command line, or as a Node module. You give Lighthouse a URL to audit, it runs a series of audits against the page, and then it generates a report on how well the page did. From there, use the failing audits as indicators on how to improve the page. Each audit has a reference doc explaining why the audit is important, as well as how to fix it.

Google Chrome Web Browser has a hidden charm
When visiting your website from a Google Chrome browser, hit the F12 key on your keyboard. Select Mobile or Desktop and Generate your free SEO report.
This is a basic report that will not be as detailed or as understandable as most Professional SEO Audits, however, it's a free easy tool you can use at any time and it gives you valuable guidance in the form of a short summary. How can you pass that freebie up?
